Flareeboard
Flareeboard: one board, messages from the whole team
A Flareeboard collects messages and pictures from many people onto a single board, then hands the whole thing over in one moment. Use it for a farewell, a birthday, a work anniversary, or a team win, when one Flaree from one person is not enough.
Find it under Flareeboard in the main menu. A board goes through three stages: you build it as a draft, you publish it so the team can write on it, and you deliver it when it is ready.
Who a board can be for
You pick this when you create the board, and it cannot be changed afterwards.
Who is this for |
How it behaves |
Plan |
|---|---|---|
The whole company |
Everyone can see it and add to it from the moment it is published. |
Free Forever |
A department |
Everyone can see it and add to it. Only people in that department are notified. |
Advance |
One person |
A surprise. The person it celebrates cannot see it until you deliver it. |
Advance |
Every board type is available during the 90-day trial, so you can try personal and department boards before deciding on a plan.
You can have one open board per target at a time: one for a given person, one for a given department, one for the company. Drafts are not limited, so you can prepare several in advance. The clash only surfaces when you try to publish the second one.
Creating a board
You need the Employee Editor, Employee Administrator or Company Owner role. Go to Flareeboard → Drafts and click Create a board.
The Create a board button only appears on the Drafts section. If you are looking at Open or Delivered, switch to Drafts first.
Who is this for. One person, a department, or the whole company. For the first two, pick the person or the department underneath.
Board title. Required, up to 120 characters. This is the heading everyone sees.
What is this board about. Optional, up to 250 characters. A line or two explaining the occasion.
Occasion. Optional. The list narrows to what suits the board type: farewell, birthday and work anniversary for a person, team celebration and project win for a department, company celebration and holiday for the whole company.
Cover card. Optional, picked from your Event Cards. If you do not have a suitable one, Create Event Card takes you to the card creator and brings you back with your half-filled form intact.
Rewards. Off by default. See below.
The board is saved as a draft. Nobody else can see it yet.
The cover card is copied onto the board. Editing that card later in Event Cards will not change what the board shows, and deleting it will not break the board.
Rewarding the people who contribute
Turn on Give the cover card to everyone who contributes and set a points value between 1 and 100. When you deliver the board, everyone who wrote on it receives the cover card and those points.
The reward is handed out once per person, no matter how many messages they posted. On a personal board, the person being celebrated does not receive it. These points do not count against anyone's daily sending budget, in the same way birthday and anniversary points do not.
A board needs a cover card for rewards to work. Without one, the toggle has nothing to give.
Publishing, so people can write
Open the board and use the gear icon in the top right, then Publish. You can also publish from the row in the board list.
Publishing does two things: the board moves to Open, and everyone in scope is told about it. If your company has Slack connected, that notice arrives as a direct message. Otherwise it arrives by email. It is one or the other, never both.
On a personal board, the notice goes to the whole company except the person being celebrated, so the surprise holds.
While a board is a draft, only you can add to it. This is useful for writing the first message yourself before anyone else sees it.
Moving a board back to draft
Move to draft pulls an open board back out of sight. It only works while you are the only person who has written on it. Once anyone else adds a message, the option disappears, because taking the board away from them would lose their work.
Adding your message
Anyone who can send Flarees can write on an open board. Open it and click Send your Flaree.
What you can add |
Limits |
|---|---|
A message |
Up to 500 characters. A live counter shows where you are. |
A picture |
JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, up to 10 MB. Click the box to pick a file. |
You need at least one of the two. A picture on its own is fine, a message on its own is fine, both is fine.
There is no limit on how many messages you can post, or on how many messages a board can hold. Post again later if you think of something else. If the board rewards contributors, posting five times still earns you one card and one set of points.
You can edit or remove your own message while the board is still open. Managers can remove anyone's message, which is there for moderation, but cannot edit someone else's words.
On a personal board you cannot write on your own board. This is the same rule as sending a Flaree to yourself.
Delivering the board
When the board is ready, open it and choose Deliver board from the gear menu. Deliver from the board page rather than the list row, so the confirmation can tell you how many people will be emailed.
Delivery is final. The board closes, and after that nobody can add, edit or remove a message, including you.
What happens next depends on the board type:
One person: they get an email, and a push notification if they use the mobile app. The board appears in their Made for you panel with a New badge.
A department or the whole company: everyone in scope gets an email. There is no push notification for these, to avoid buzzing the whole company at once.
If Slack is connected, Flaree also posts an announcement to the company channel for every delivered board.
If the board rewards contributors, the cards and points are handed out at this moment.
Receiving a board
A board made for you appears behind the gift icon in the top bar, with a red dot while something is unopened. Click it to open the Made for you panel, which lists every board your team has put together for you.
Opening an unopened board shows a full-screen reveal: the cover card, the title, and an Open it button. Pressing it uncovers the wall of messages.
The reveal happens once. There is no way to look at the board first and save the moment for later, so open it when you have a minute for it.
The gift icon only appears once you have received at least one board.
Sharing a board outside Flaree
A delivered board can be given a public link, so someone without a Flaree account can read it. Useful when a leaver wants to keep their farewell board.
Open the delivered board and choose Share this board from the gear menu.
Use Copy to put the link on your clipboard.
Stop sharing switches the link off again.
The public page shows the title, the description, the delivery date, the cover image and every message. Author names are shortened to a first name and an initial, like Anna K. No email addresses, no company details and no points are on that page, and search engines are told not to index it.
Turning sharing off kills the link for everyone who has it. Sharing again later creates a new link, so the old one stays dead.
On a personal board, the person it was made for can share it themselves. Department and company boards can only be shared by a manager.
Archiving
Archive board, from the row in the board list, takes a board out of the list without deleting it. It works on drafts and on open boards, including open boards that already have messages on them, so check what you are archiving first.
Common questions
Can I schedule a board to deliver itself?
Not today. Delivery is a manual step.
Can I change who a board is for after creating it?
No. The board type and its target are fixed once the board exists. Everything else, title, description, occasion, cover card and rewards, can be changed while the board is a draft or open.
Do messages on a board count as Flarees given?
No. Writing on a board costs nothing from your daily budget and does not appear in your Flarees sent. Only the contributor rewards at delivery create points.
Why can a colleague not add a message?
Adding a message needs permission to send Flarees. Someone with the plain Employee role can read a board but not write on it. Check their role under Settings → Team.
Why can I not create a board?
Creating and managing boards needs the Employee Editor role or higher. Everyone else sees the Flareeboard section and can contribute, but not the Create a board button.
Can I recover a message after the board is delivered?
Messages are not deleted at delivery, they are frozen. Everything written stays on the board and stays readable.
Why does the board say another one is already open?
There can only be one open board per person, per department and per company at a time. Deliver or archive the existing one, then publish yours.
Can someone outside the company contribute?
No. Only people in your Flaree company can write on a board. The public link is read-only.
