Sending Flarees

Sending a Flaree

Sending a Flaree is the core action in the product. Everything else, points, leaderboards, badges, follows from it. This page covers how to send one, the rules that apply, and what happens next.

How to send one

The send button is the round Flaree button pinned to the bottom right of every dashboard screen. You never have to navigate anywhere to recognize someone.

The form has four fields:

Field

What it does

Flaree

Which recognition card you are sending. Only cards with units still available appear here.

Users

One to ten people in a single send. Everyone gets the same card, points and comment.

How many points

100, 70, 50 or 20. This is the weight of the recognition.

Comment

Optional, up to 250 characters. Worth writing, see below.

Write the comment. It reaches the recipient in their email and in the Slack announcement, and it stays attached to the Flaree permanently. A card with no comment tells someone they were recognized. A card with a comment tells them what for, which is the part that actually lands.

The rules

You can send 100 points per day to each person

This is the one limit that people run into. It is a points budget, not a Flaree count, and it applies per recipient.

So in a single day you can send one colleague:

  • One Flaree worth 100 points, or

  • A 70 and a 20, or

  • Five separate 20s

All of those use the same 100-point budget for that person. The budget is separate for every colleague, so there is no cap on how many people you recognize in a day. Recognize thirty people at 100 points each if the day warrants it.

The budget resets at midnight in your company's timezone.

Leftover budget cannot be part-spent. If you have already sent someone 90 points today, the remaining 10 cannot be used, because the smallest card is worth 20. Every option will be refused until the budget resets. This is why a send can fail even though you have not sent that person a full 100 points.

You cannot send a Flaree to yourself

If you include yourself in a group send, you are quietly dropped from the list and everyone else still receives theirs.

You can only send to active colleagues

People who have been deactivated, or who have been invited but have not yet set up their account, cannot receive Flarees. In a group send they are skipped and the rest goes through.

Cards have a limited supply

Each card is created with a fixed number of units. Sending a Flaree uses one up. When a card runs out it disappears from the picker, and an editor can raise its quantity or create a new card.

In a group send, the whole send needs enough units for everyone. Picking five people when only three units remain sends nothing at all, rather than serving the first three. Reduce the group or pick a different card.

Sending to several people at once

Up to ten people per send. They all receive the same card, points and comment, but each one counts separately against your daily budget for that person.

A group send does not have to succeed or fail as a whole. If somebody is already at their daily limit or is no longer active, they are skipped and everyone else still receives theirs. You will see a message naming who was skipped, alongside a confirmation of how many people were reached.

Seeing both a red and a green message at once is normal: it means part of the send went through and part did not.

What happens after you send

Immediately, and in this order:

  1. The recipient gets the points, which count towards their leaderboard position for the current period.

  2. A unit of the card is claimed and appears in their collection.

  3. They receive an email titled "You received a new Flaree!", including your comment if you wrote one.

  4. The team sees it in Slack, if your company has the integration. Recognition is public by design.

  5. Your own badge progress advances. Flaree Master badges are awarded to the sender, and land instantly.

Note the split: the recipient gets points and climbs the leaderboard, while you earn badges for sending. The two systems reward opposite sides of the same act.

Who can send

Everyone you invite can send Flarees from day one. An admin can revoke someone's giving rights afterwards, leaving them able to receive only.

If you do not have the permission, the send button opens a short message saying so rather than the form. Ask an admin to restore your giving rights in the member settings.

Sending from Slack

Type /flaree transfer and the same form opens as a Slack dialog: card, recipients, points and comment. The ten-person limit applies here too.

Two differences worth knowing:

  • Points are typed, not picked. Any whole number up to 100 works, so you are not restricted to 100/70/50/20.

  • A group send needs enough card units up front. If there are not enough, Slack tells you before sending anything.

The command needs your Slack account linked to Flaree. If it is not, connect it under Settings → Integration → Slack.

Where the Flaree ends up

For the recipient it appears in Dashboard → Flarees, with your name, the points and your comment. The comment stays attached permanently, so it can be read months later.

For you, everything you have sent is in your transfer history. Both sides feed the activity views and the weekly and monthly summaries.

Common questions

"Daily limit reached" but I only sent them one Flaree.
The limit counts points, not cards. One 100-point Flaree uses the entire daily budget for that person. Their budget resets at midnight, company time.

I have points left but nothing can be sent.
Leftover budget below 20 points cannot be used, because 20 is the smallest card. Wait for the reset.

The card I want is not in the list.
It has run out of units. An editor can raise the quantity or create a new card.

My group send did nothing.
Usually not enough units of that card for everyone selected. A group send needs one unit per person or it sends nothing. Pick fewer people or another card.

Someone in the group did not receive theirs.
Either they had already reached their daily limit from you, or their account is not active.

Can I take a Flaree back?
No. Sent recognition is permanent, and the card unit stays used.

Do I get points for sending?
No. Points go to the recipient. Sending earns you badges instead.
